Dreams
in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, it is a beautiful and an optional
all inclusive resort for adult and families and is part of the
amresorts (i.e., Zoetry, Secrets, Now and Sunscape are also a part of this resort
family).
I opted for the all inclusive option and it was my very
first all inclusive resort so I did not have much to compare it to, until
recently. Since Dreams, I have been to two other all inclusive resorts
and below are my personal opinion of Dreams.
Restaurants did NOT require reservations. The
restaurants were pretty tasty as well, my favorite was Portofino (Fine Italian
Cuisine) follow by Oceana, awesome seafood dishes.
The room was very nice, you can select your own
pillow (foam, down, etc) and linens, beautiful marble floors. Tub was
just a standard size, the old school kind, super tiny and shallow. You
can also see this in their gallery of pictures. There is a sink and stove
as this resort has optional all inclusive as previously mentioned.
The room included sunscreen along with an array of shampoos,
conditioners, lotions, etc. which was a nice touch I thought considering many
people forget this when they travel, we did in our last trip.
In-room bar: Beer and sodas.
Coffee to start your day: There is a
Starbucks-like stand "Coco Cafe" at the resort to make your
favorite coffee beverage of your choice to start the day. The Cafe
also has some available pastries in case you are not a sitting down
breakfast person.
Movies: It was nice that you can select the latest
movies that are out for rent and just borrow by putting down your room number,
there is no fee if you keep for the entire week, only if you accidentally take
it home, then you are paying full price for the DVD. This was included,
other resorts, do charge for movie rentals (Paradisus for sure).
On site activities: Tennis, ping pong and a nice size
gym with really old rusted equipment.
Cons: No activities other than 2 listed above, were
included as the beach was not useable due to rough currents, all the time, not
just when I was there. So other than eating, drinking and swimming in the 2
pools, tennis, ping pong, watching movies, no much else.
No transportation was provided without an extra cost,
it was $30 roundtrip for a cab to town and the town was about 10 minutes
away. Needless to say, every morning after breakfast and lunch, I took a
cab into town for activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, all of out of pocket,
etc..so a lot of additonal costs.
No top shelf liquor.
Restaurants: 5 restaurants, only one available for
breakfast and 2 for lunch.
El Patio — International buffet for breakfast and
lunch, with à la carte Mexican menu for dinner. This was the worst, I am not a
big fan and almost went out of my way to just have coffee for breakfast at the
Coco Cafe so that I could wait till lunch time to eat at Oceana as there was
not other option for breakfast.
Seaside Grill — Dinner only. Steaks and other grilled
specialties à la carte. Located near our beautiful infinity pool and serving
grilled steaks, seafood and other delights plus great tropical cocktails.
Oceana — Lunch and dinner. Delicious é la carte
seafood specialties served for lunch and dinner in a romantic ocean front setting.
I love their made to order hot salsa and guacamole, great ceviche, fantastic
seafood and fish. I went here almost every day for lunch as it was this or El
Patio or should I say El Shitio..
Himitsu — Dinner only. Asian cuisines, they stated
that there is Hibachi but there was not a Hibachi grill(false advertising for
sure), if you check out their website, the picture of the restaurant does not
even have a hibachi area, it was quite small as well, it was all a la carte and
only open for dinner. I liked it for the ambience with the outside seating but
it was not amazing, the sushi was horrible, not fresh, the thai dishes were
mediocre, the chinese food was also pretty bland, I think a chinese stand
in the Mall may be slightly tastier, all they had going for them is ambience
but as for taste, not so good, presentation, 5 stars, taste 1 star.
Portofino — Dinner only. Fine Italian focusing on
Northern Italy. Fantastic, awesome Osso Bucco, fantastic pasta dishes,
Carpaccio was delicious. I would try a different restaurant and when it wasn't
tasty, I would go to Portofino as my backup. I think I ate there 6 of 8 nights
after going to Himitsu one night.
Would I recommend this resort? NO
I would however, recommend Cabo San Lucas, it is a great
city and extremely beautiful.
