Where to stay:
My first trip to Milwaukee,
Wisconsin was this past September. My first impression was very much than
expected, I expected Milwaukee to be like Pittsburgh, grey, dreary and
freezing cold, much to my surprise, Milwaukee was nothing of that sort.
Milwaukee has rolling hills, beautifully landscaped greeneries,
a beautiful beach, amazing restaurants, quaint
neighborhoods, incredible history, and awesome people.

The pier in Downtown Milwaukee, with
its breathtaking view, you can sit by a restaurant right by the pier and watch
the sailboats go by or stroll along the coast of the pier through a
beautiful park. A very picturesque downtown for sure.

Where to stay:
We stayed in downtown Milwaukee at
the Hilton. This particular Hilton has incredible
old-fashioned architecture with cathedral ceilings, a remarkle
chandelier and beautiful artwork. Below is a picture of the lobby
located on the second floor up two sets of beautifully
lined stairways. Interestingly, the Hotel also has an inside waterpark
located on the ground floor centrally located within the hotel, a little tricky
to get there but there are signs located everywhere in the hotel. The room
was also beautiful and had an incredible view of the City and Lake, the
bathroom although gorgeous was tiny as that was how bathrooms were back in the
day, no renovation was done to expand the size even for a deluxe room with two
seating area.
Milwaukee's Memorable Restaurants
and Eateries:
Crazy
Water: quaint restaurant in a converted house with the back yard
for outside seating, located in the European neighborhood on 2nd
street. The inside had about 7 tables in the front of the house,
about 3 or 4 in the back with a small bar seating area where the front
transition to the back. The back of restaurant reminded me of the wedding scene
from Sabrina (with Harrison Ford & Greg Kinnear).
I had the potato rosti Tilapia with
meyer lemon sauce, green rice and sauteed spinach, all I can say is YUM, the
portion is much larger than all the other dishes. My fiance had the Crazy
Shrimp, also quite good but I definitely thought the Tilapia was so much
better. The drinks were also quite good and unique, I had a spicy martini
that was on their special, if you like spicy and they have it, you must
try. The rim of the martini glass was rimmed with chili pepper powder.
Cafe Benelux:A great brunch place, it is
located in the Third Ward district of Downtown Milwaukee. The menu has
some fantastic selections, check out the Brunch Menu. There are rooftop seatings to take
in the view of Milwaukee,
located diagonally is the
fantastic Public Market The Public Market has an array
of deli meats, cheeses, fresh $1 oyster, and the $1 Schlitz beer on draft at
the seafood stand, amazing desserts, fish and chips, unique dips and spreads,
wine tasting bar, spices galore, and much much more. Must try some fresh
oysters, there was a selection when we went, 6 different regions to select
from. The beer cheese soup was also quite delicious **expect to gain a pound or
two :).
The
Knick: Located on 1030 E Juneau Ave inside a hotel with a modern
decor. The food was quite good and if you are looking for a view of Lake
Michigan from a distant, sit outside. Price wise, about $13-$16 per lunch
entree. The mixed skewers were good and the Chinese Chicken salad was not
filling.
Rustico
Pizzeria: Delicious Pizza located in the Historic Third Ward.
They have some of the most interesting pizzas and awesome specials, look on
their site for the details.
Milwaukee's Nightlife:
The Palm Bistro and Bar:The Palm is also
located in the Historic Third Ward district where many bars are located, it has
a nice menu with small plates and some creative delicious drinks. It is
decorated with lots of artwork, has exposed brick walls and have wall size
windows that allows for people watching, it gives a very city feel as if you
are in New York rather than Milwaukee, allows for a view even in the middle of
September.
My favorite: Blu located
on the 23rd Floor at the famous Pfister hotel the view of the
entire city is phenonimal. The Blu has that feel of a Frank Sinatra bar, the
piano, the dark wood and blue decor with a bar centrally located. The staff
extremely friendly and for those with hope to meet famous baseball players, I was
told they come there after games.
Whiskey
Bar A nightclub located @ 788 N Jackson Street, it has an
outside patio, a big dance floor with a couple of different platforms, a large
bar. It was a fun time.
The Duplex:Just like its name, it is located
in a duplex, converted into a bar with each level having its own bar. It
has that feel of a high-end college bar, definitely a must try.

Duplex
I love Milwaukee in September and
highly recommend everyone to visit this amazing city.
